The morning slips away into the afternoon as the country side glides past on your journey. The old Sailor keeps his craft somehow in the faster currents, barely requiring the sail as you make good progress.
Gradually the hilly grasslands and tall conifer tree's give way to the more rounded shapes of the temperate climate - though you could barely have gone 30 miles, the difference is quite startling.
Eventually you pass by your first homestead, a small farm perched atop a hill peering out across an orchard of apples, pears and oranges.
The boat pulls into the small tributary cut into the earth and the Captain weighs anchor for the moment, leaping ashore to greet a massively built man making his way through the neatly lined trees, in his arms a large box, and behind him trailing dociley along a donkey pulling a broad cart.
They great each other with a rather vicious hug that looks more like a wrestling move before returning the boat and unloading the cart filled with many sacks onto the deck - and then taken below into the narrow storage space.
"Good morn to thee travellers. I has brought you some apples and the likes. Too small to be sold at market, but good eating all the same." he gives you a broad smile that cracks open the thick dark beard to reveal a perfect brilliant white set of teeth that look more like the maw of a bear.
* * * * - MOERAQ
A sudden clunk behind you attracts Moeraq's attention though Ferchil and Astrianna continue chatting with the farmer unawares. 2 of the sailors man handling one of the sacks look at each other worriedly and step back. The old Sailor quickly reacts grabbing the sack with a panicked expression "Ha ha, ah, oh yeh. Thanks for the erm, Birdboxes." he lies. The two sailors keep their mouths shut, but one gives the other a rather 'evil' wink and grin that is responded to by the Old dog with the finger to his lips before he glances to see if anybody else has noticed.
Noting nothing he slips his hand into his pocket, dishing out several coins in front of your eyes to the 2 sailors - before whispering in their ears. You just manage to catch "Or else!" and a rather firm glance before he spies your attention and switches himself back to 'Captain' mode.
"Just sorting us out some, entertainment at our next stop." he says as behind him to the sack disappears into the hold along with the apples and pears.
Astrianna and Ferchil - the farmers name is Olwyn. A traditional family name, and not necessarily his own. But it goes with the family history so he's happy to keep it. "You never know the damage that could occur to the business if 'Olwyns Fruit' suddenly became 'Abrahams Fruit'." he adds.
