Which of you play D&D? I have been playing D&D since the mid-80s. I am currently running my Forgotten Realms campaign that has been going steady since 1995. Needless to say, the characters are very well established and have extensive histories. I also play in my friends games. All 3rd edition...

I've been playing D&D for about two or three years, although in those years I've been playing a lot. Not even a single of our campaigns has lasted for more than three or four months, but we have fun, even though we start a new game every third or fourth playing session. I've been playing 3rd Edition a lot more than I've been playing 2nd, but I can play both. My DM can't. He likes 3e a lot more than 2e.

I first started playing D&D in 1984, but it didn't become a serious hobby until 1988. I first took a go at being a DM in 1990, realised I loved the power and have been a DM ever since. I still play as a player, and aside from planning for my NWN campaign, I'm currently involved in one other r/l game as a player.

I've been playing AD&D for about 9 years now, and DM'ing for 8 of them. My last big campaign lasted 3 years, but ended this time last year when we all split up for university. I am currently in the process of uploading my entire campaign setting onto the net to share the world with everyone, since I cannot play RL AD&D anymore.
I am very publically against 3rd edition, since I think it's for all those who cannot handle a proper system, ie newbies and powergamers. I am currently trying to skim some useful information out of the 3rd ed. rulebooks in time for NWN.

Recently play PnP third edition, and thought the new rules were a bit too loose. It didnt seem to me that there were many advantages to being a normal every day old fighter! Played an ongoing campaign for about ten years, also set in the Forgotten Realms, but havent done anything with that campaign for several years. Everyone has families and other activities that they have to take care of and I dont know if we would ever be able to get back into it like the good old days. Its a shame, because we were just beginning to delve into battle systems and the first couple of wars that our PC's got involved in centered in the Old Empires country of Chessenta. As a matter of fact, one of our PC's was killed in battle and not recoverable! But thats another story!

I'd just like to say something about 3rd edition fighters...they get tons of Feats (above and beyond all other classes) and can specialize in weapons. This makes them equal to the other classes. And Battle System. We delved into that a bit ourselves. Only problem with it is that powerful PCs can wipe out entire units of troops on their own (this happened several times). It got to the point where I had to put enemy NPCs that were equally as powerful in the opposing army. Then it just got ridiculous because no one cared much for the armies when dozens of units were getting wiped out by Cloudkills and Firestorms. The masses simply didn't make much of a difference and the individual characters became the deciding factor on who was going to win or lose. But overall it was fun while it lasted I'm interested in how the new skirmish system for 3rd ed. called Chainmail works... anyone tried it yet?
