I am a FO:T newbie, and was wondering what strategies you might have developed for the game that might help me... I really don't have any good ones yet, since I've just barely begun the second mission, but as I stumble across them, I'll post em.
The easiest thing, for me, is to pull the ambush scenario outlined in the tutorial. I haven't had a chance to use a sniper properly yet, I fear.
Any input would be appreciated.

I found the sniper to be of the MOST use, if you train up sneak they can get anyway and their weapons kill most things with a couple of shots.
I also found in this game that big guns is much more useful than energy weapons. Energy only comes into its own in the last few missions, (you will find out why).

I prefer being a sniper. This way I can peg off people from a safe distance. I usually play turned based on the Fallout games compared to real time

I to always play turn based. CTB just isn't fallout. Also, don't bother with called shots. It's rarely worth it. Not likt Fo 1 and 2. Instead get the "shoot really fast" trait (can't remember the name right now) and perks as you go. Also get the more/better critticals stuff.

Agreed...by the end of the game I had 3 snipers with Improved Crits and Quick Shot(I think that's the name). They all had good sneak as well. Between the three of them, they were taking out super mutants in 1 round. A Death claw is handy for protecting them but they have some disadvantages(cant carry stuff). Super Mutants are good since they can use heavy weapons for up close and can carry a lot of goodies. One other thing. Learn to use vehicles effectively. Your driver can shoot, and I think(been awhile since I played) i passenger can. Put a heavy weapons guy in there and you have a tank that moves fast. If you do this though, make sure you have a good mechanic.

I never found much use for vehicles myself. I guess I just prefer walking. Snipers rule this game. Some hints: 1. Have at least 3 snipers that have a lot of skill points in Small Arms and Energy Weapons. It's a good idea to invest a small percentage of your skill points in Energy Weapons early so that when they become available your snipers have 120%+ in them. 2. Forget about Melee Weapons and Unarmed combat unless you have a death wish. Have fun going toe-to-toe with Deathclaws or some of the more hardcore opponents in the game. 3. I found Sneak to be VERY useful in getting around and scoping out the enemy. 4. I found CTB good to use when not in combat. When you get in combat just hit Enter to move to TB. 5. A high outdoorsman skill for one person will help you avoid fighting at least 10 or more random encounters on the way to each mission. 6. A high gambling/barter skill for ONE person will make it a lot easier for you to get around the game's ridiculous equipment procurement system. This can get REALLY expensive and will mean that you will be forever bringing back 20+ AK-47s just so you can buy a rocket launcher. It's a truly sad day when you have to gamble/barter with the equipment officers of your own Brotherhood. Hope this all helps.

So far, the sniper rifle is too underpowered for me to use much, unless I can get in a high place.
I agree about the vehicles, pretty much useless. I also agree about the sneak ability.
But the number one strategy I use is the simple one explained in the tutorial, the ambush.[/glow]

But the number one strategy I use is the simple one explained in the tutorial, the ambush.[/glow] AKs are probably what you'll stick with the longest, in terms of versatility. They have a fair range even with burst and you'll never run out of ammo. The sniper rifle I'm talking about is NOT the hunting rifle - it's the proper sniper's rifle, with a range of 50 yards. In my small automatics stage all the snipers in my group had that as their main weapon, and an AK as the shorter-range burst weapon. Someone with 150% in their Small Guns skill and a Perception of 8+ can do major damage with it. My commando/sneak had the sniper rifle as the long-range weapon and a Jackhammer combat shotgun as the close-range weapon (it still has a range of about 20-24 yards at burst). Close up it can do up to 300+ damage to someone if you critically hit them. Like DeSade said, energy weapons are only useful in the final missions, but it's good to invest a bit in them each time you level up (maybe 3-5 points each time increasing towards the end). You won't regret it. If you have someone with the strength to carry the Browning M2 and the .50 cal ammo, it can do MAJOR damage to those around you - friend and foe alike. If you're playing on CTB, make sure nobody accidentally gets in front of it or they will be shredded in a most graphic way.
